Privacy Policy

In handling the personal information of its customers (hereinafter referred to as "Personal Information"), Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Sekisui") will comply with any and all provisions of the Personal Information Protection Act and any other applicable laws and regulations and shall establish its voluntary rules and system as well as its own privacy policy as follows for the protection of Personal Information, which Sekisui hereby commits to implement and maintain in good faith.

  1. Sekisui will prepare and establish Rules on the Protection of Personal Information and shall ensure that any and all of its employees (including directors, regular employees, part-time workers and temporary employees) comply with these Rules. Sekisui will revise and improve these Rules from time to time as required.
  2. Sekisui will take proper security measures, such as antivirus measures or measures against unauthorized access, to prevent any loss, damage, alteration or leakage of Personal Information.
  3. Sekisui will obtain the Personal Information only in a legal and proper manner. Sekisui will never obtain Personal Information by illegal or illicit means. Before using Personal Information, Sekisui will obtain the prior consent of the customers or notify them of the information required via Sekisui's website in relation to the purposes of its use.
  4. Sekisui will use Personal Information only for the purposes of use as separately determined to the extent required for the operation of its business, provided, however, that under any of the following conditions, Sekisui may disclose any Personal Information to a third party or may use it for a purpose other than its designated use without the prior consent of the customer:
    1. when required by laws and regulations;
    2. when necessary for the protection of human life, body or property and it is difficult to obtain the prior consent of the customer from whom such Personal Information originates;
    3. when it is specifically required for the promotion of improvements in public health or the wholesome development of children and it is difficult to obtain the prior consent of the customer from whom such Personal Information originates; or
    4. when cooperation is requested in relation to work regulated by laws and regulations and conducted by a national agency, public organization of the local government or a party subcontracted by them, and obtaining the prior consent of the customer from whom such Personal Information originates may adversely affect the work.
  5. Sekisui hereby confirms that the customer has the right to request Sekisui to disclose, correct, discontinue the use of or delete Company-owned Personal Data (as separately defined) that may identify such customer, and will properly deal with such requests.
  6. Sekisui will properly deal with any and all complaints made by customers related to the handling of Personal Information (Please see "Questions and Inquiries related to Personal Information").
  7. When disclosing certain items of Personal Information to a third party (subcontractor) for the purpose of contracting out some portion of the work, Sekisui will take all necessary measures to supervise such subcontractors for the protection of the Personal Information.
  8. When sharing Personal Information with predetermined third parties, Sekisui will, directly or via Sekisui's website, give prior notification to the customers related thereto, including the Personal Information to be shared, the scope and purposes of use by such third parties and the party responsible in relation to the sharing of the Personal Information.

Personal Information under this Privacy Policy means:

Any and all information that may identify an individual customer, shareholder, business partner, employee, etc. of Sekisui by any one single item or combination of two or more items thereof including, but not limited to, the name, age, date of birth, telephone number, mail address, address of residence or place of work.

Purposes of the Use of Personal Information

Sekisui agrees and commits to the use of the Personal Information only for the following purposes according to the company objectives as stipulated in its Articles of Incorporation in a proper manner to the extent required for the implementation of its various businesses, which are described as follows:

  1. The provision of various products or services related to the Urban Infrastructure and Environmental Products Business, which includes the manufacturing and sale of plastic materials and housing related materials, the provision of proposals or information related thereto, the filing of necessary applications or notifications related thereto, the execution of agreements and the fulfillment of rights and obligations related thereto
  2. Inspections, repairs, or the provision of after-sales services in relation to various products and services provided as part of the Urban Infrastructure and Environmental Products Business, which includes the manufacturing and sale of plastic materials and housing related materials, the provision of proposals or information relating thereto, the filing of necessary applications or notifications related thereto, the execution of agreements and the fulfillment of rights and obligations related thereto
  3. Notifications or announcements to customers in relation to new products or services, events, campaigns or closed-membership services, contact with or explanation to the applicants thereof, or the provision of materials, information, products or services requested by customers
  4. Responses to, or handling of, any questions, inquiries, complaints or disputes originated by the customers
  5. The following of procedures related to various loans and borrowings

Company-owned Personal Data under this Policy means:

Any and all Personal Information constituting a database that may easily identify specific personal information (hereinafter referred to as "Personal Data") that Sekisui is authorized to disclose, correct, add to, omit, discontinue to use, delete or discontinue to provide to a third party, except for any data prescribed by laws and regulations as adversely affecting the public or other interests if its existence becomes known, or any data that is supposed to be deleted within six (6) months.

Request for Disclosure

Sekisui will accept any individual request for the disclosure of the Company-owned Personal Data according to the following procedures and promptly respond to such a request within reasonable limits in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations. Please note that Sekisui cannot always respond to a request that does not conform to the procedures described below.

  1. Application
    Please apply to the Division in charge mentioned above for any request made via telephone or mail. The Division will notify you of the details of procedures in writing or otherwise after identifying you (or your proxy) in the following manner. You may be required to submit an application form as designated by Sekisui, depending on the type of request.
  2. Identification of yourself or your proxy
    If you apply in person, Sekisui will identify you by your driver's license, health insurance card, passport, seal registration certificate or other means. If another person applies on behalf of you, Sekisui will identify such a person as your proxy according to your letter of proxy and the seal registration certificate of the seal that is affixed to such as letter.
  3. Charges
    Sekisui will charge 1,000 yen per application for disclosure, provided, however, that Sekisui may impose additional charges if the written documentation related to such a disclosure is two or more pages long.
  4. Exceptions
    In accordance with the laws and regulations, Sekisui may not accept your request for disclosure in any of the following cases:
    1. If the disclosure may threaten or damage the life, body, property or any other rights or interests of a customer, or a third party.
    2. If the disclosure may materially hinder the proper implementation of Sekisui's businesses
    3. If the disclosure may infringe on, or violate, any other laws and regulations

Request for Correction, etc.

Sekisui will accept any request for the correction, addition or omission of the Company-owned Personal Data on the grounds that the contents of the data are not correct (hereinafter referred to as "correction, etc.) as follows and promptly respond to such a request within reasonable limits in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations. Please note that Sekisui cannot always respond to any request for correction, etc. that does not conform to the procedures described below.

  2. Identification of yourself or your proxy
    The same procedure as the "Request for Disclosure"
  3. Charges
    Sekisui will not charge a fee for a request for correction, etc.
  4. Exceptions
    In accordance with laws and regulations, Sekisui may not accept a request for correction, etc. if any of the following apply:
    1. There is no need for the correction, etc. in the light of the purposes of use or when the grounds for corrections, etc. are not correct
    2. When specific procedures are provided for under other laws and regulations.

Request for Discontinuation of Use, etc.

Sekisui will accept a request for discontinuation of the use of, or the deletion of, the Company-owned Personal Data on the grounds that it was illegally acquired or it has been used in violation of the Purposes of Use (hereinafter referred to as "discontinuation of use, etc.) as follows and promptly respond to such as request within reasonable limits in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations. Please note that Sekisui cannot always respond to any request for discontinuation of use, etc. that does not conform to the procedures described below.

  1. Application The same as for the "Request for Disclosure"
  2. Identification of yourself or your proxy The same as for the "Request for Disclosure"
  3. Charges Sekisui will not charge a fee for any request for discontinuation of use, etc.
  4. Exceptions In accordance with the laws and regulations, Sekisui may not accept your request for discontinuation of use, etc. in any of the following cases:
    1. when the grounds for the discontinuation of use, etc. are not correct
    2. when significant costs will be incurred to ensure the discontinuation of use, etc.
    3. when it is difficult to discontinue the use of such data

Complaints related to Personal Information

Any and all complaints related to Personal Information should be directed to the Division in charge mentioned above by telephone or mail. The Division in charge will promptly respond to any complaint within reasonable limits in accordance with the laws and regulations.

Sharing of the Personal Data

Sekisui will share Personal Data among its business entities affiliated with each Company to the extent required for attainment of the purposes of sharing so that each of them can provide comprehensive services efficiently and effectively to the customers. The details of the sharing of the Personal Data are as follows:

  1. Items of Personal Data to be shared
    Personal Information including, but not limited to, name, sex, date of birth, address, telephone number, facsimile number or e-mail address;
    1. Household or family information;
    2. Information related to agreements; and
    3. Information related to design drawings, houses, or buildings.
  2. Purpose of Sharing
    This is the same as the "Purposes of the Use of Personal Information" separately determined by Sekisui. Any and all companies listed above that share Personal Data may not use it for any other purposes.
  3. Company responsible for the sharing of Personal Data
    Sekisui will be responsible for the sharing of Personal Data when it discloses such data to the companies listed above.
